Professional, Prompt, Good Haircut.
I read the review from 2007 stating that there was a scalp massage along with the shampoo, and that was honestly my reason for trying this salon. I'd actually put "scalp massage" into the search engine to find a salon in my area that offered this perk. I also put "colorist" and my local area into the search engine, so I'd get someone who is good with getting the right color.
So, needing some relaxation, I went for my appointment at this salon. I was taken back to the service area promptly, and greeted in a friendly manner by my hair stylist. I was offered coffee, tea, or hot chocolate. Then, the hair stylist looked at my hair, discussed what I wanted done, and proceeded to work on my hair. The stylist took the time to talk to me about what I wanted and took the time to make sure my cut was what I wanted. He also took great care in applying the highlights.
He had an assistant who did the shampooing, though, and I'd expected a scalp massage, and instead I got a shampoo service that was no different from getting my hair washed at J.C. Penney or any other mid-priced salon. I don't know if that is the norm, but for me, it was a let down to not receive a scalp massage.
Anyhow, if you want a good cut and professional coloring service, you'll be satisfied with this salon. I will continue to search for a salon that offeres a scalp massage, but in the meantime, this is a place I would recommend for those who want a very good stylist who takes the time to listen to his client's preferences.
Better hair care than the Grand Hotel, Ritz, and other "world class" brand names.
We travel a lot for fun and business. I've had my hair done at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, MI; Fairmont Chateua in Whistler, BC; Maiden Lane Spa in San Fran, etc.
It's only been since I've been going to Joe DuCharme at Ralph Paul that I "get" what good hair should feel like and look like. I'd forgotten what it was like to slide my fingers thru a silky-feeling head of hair - I've been perming or coloring for 20 years and THOUGHT I was getting what I was paying for. After 2 years with Joe, my hair's completely different in texture. He's a gifted stylist, and chooses cuts that are easy to care for, easy to alter to different 'looks' (fancy or formal), and flattering to my face and figure and age. And the color... wow! The color I *should* have if I weren't so gray, and nearly identical to the color at age 12.
The front desk assistant is always waiting at the desk. Joe and his assistant always great me within a minute of arrival, even if it's to say, "Joe will be right with you" when I'm a little early. They offer me something to drink, offer to take my coat or get me a smock or a magazine. I'm escorted from chair to color processor to shampoo bowl to chair, not summoned or shouted at. They always check to see if the air or water they're using is a good temperature. The scalp massage during the shampoo always has me purring. And the wonderful perfumes and textures of the products they use and let me sample during my visit are a delight.
Joe is a professional in every facet of his work, and enjoys teaching those he works with. And I enjoy listening to him teach ("remember while blow-drying - your fingers are four rollers") because it helps ME remember how to style my hair and to understand why you do things a certain way. And he always asks permission of me before using me (infrequently) to do a quick lesson.
The salon is always spotless, too!
Professionalism at it's best!.

cold atomsphere. I stopped in this salon to see about scheduling an appointment for a couple of spa service, it was 10 minutes before any one ever greated me and then I felt as if I was in their way. I've heard good things but my experience was not positive
